The Automobile Engineering Training Institute (AETI) is a National level training institute established in November 1989 by a grant aid from the Government of Japan at a cost of Rs. 500 million (Jpy 2.016 billion) and functions under purview of National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) which is under the MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS. The institute is managed by a 8- member Governing Council approved by the NAITA with the concurrence of the MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS the Chairman of the NAITA as its Chairman and representatives from among the members of the NAITA, and representatives from the private sector involved in Automobile Engineering.

The institute plays a major role in the skills upgrading of the employees engaged in the automobile industry by introducing modern technology through skills upgrading programmes.
